An app estimate describes the complete service behind the screens. Define what users need to accomplish, which platforms they use and how the app connects to your business operations.
Describe the user journeys
Write out the steps for each core task, such as placing an order or recording a site visit. Include sign-in, approvals, notifications and error states. A screen count alone leaves work out of the discussion.
Include the backend
Identify where records are stored and who administers them. Discuss APIs, permissions, reporting and integrations. If an administrative portal is needed, include it in the scope instead of treating it as an invisible part of the app.
Discuss device and connection needs
State whether the app needs camera access, location, background activity or offline operation. Describe how users resolve conflicting changes when a connection returns. Agree on the devices and operating system versions that will be tested.
Budget for the full lifecycle
Include design, development, testing, store submission, hosting and ongoing support in the proposal. Mark assumptions and exclusions so estimates can be compared fairly.
- Separate essential first-release tasks from later ideas.
- Provide example data and integration details.
- Agree on acceptance checks and support responsibilities.
